IGUAZU: nature's wonder between Brazil and Argentina

Current location: click here

Good bye big city; back to nature!  I was happy to visit Sao Paulo after such a long time, but was even more happy when I left it. Not because it was disappointing, but the next stop is nothing less than Foz de Iguacu, the brasilean city close to the famous waterfalls.

It was Good Monday the day I left and the Easter holidays were just finishing; you could see this in the roads. Fortunately for me, the traffic jams were in direction to Sao Paulo and we could drive in the opposite way without any problems.

I guess I'm now trained on how to sleep in buses. This time I couldn't get the "Leito" seat, but still had a good night and felt fit to visit the brasilean side of the falls. It was 7am, time for breakfast at the bus terminal. The long distance bus terminal is outside town (6km) so that I had first to take a bus to the center and from there a bus to the Park Entrance. By the time I got there it was 9am and the park had just opened.

I was told the Argentinean side has the best view. At this point I only knew the Brasilean side and for me that's already a great view!

It was around 2pm when I finished with the visit and took the bus to town, and from there another bus that took me across the border to Puerto Iguazu, the Argentinean town next to the falls. I arrived to the hostel around 3:30pm. Went to the hostel, had lunch (it's Argentina!) a "Bife de chorizo" for 88 ARS was due again.

After lunch there was still with enough daylight and energy to walk the riverside and take a couple of photos of the 3-countries-border: Argentina, Brazil (to the north across the Iguazu river) and Paraguay (to the west across the Parana River, where the sun was about to set).

The hostel was clean and roomy, with big spaces for meeting other co-travellers. Here I met Tammy from Zimbawe and Matt from the UK as well as Simone from France. Simone knew about a place where we could have something to drink and listen to live music so we went there, had some beers and a good time.

I had a great sleep and started the next day slower than usual. I think I just underestimated how much more there is to do on the Argentinean side of the falls. At the end, I left the hostel only at 10am and had to rush at some points to see it all, but I made it.

It was Wednesday and the weather was better than the day before, with the sun starting to show up.

The view of course impressive. Imagine how this place looks in October when river Iguazu carries about twice as much water as in April!!

Three hours and many km walk later the sky had completely cleaned up and it was sunny, warm and nice to look.

This place is with right one of the UNESCO's World Heritage site.
