The route I'm following on this tour is not fixed; it's a draft that can be changed anytime. After Iguazú I decided to skip Ciudad del Este as the city had little to offer other than big tax-free shopping malls. Instead, I preferred to visit the paraguayan city of Encarnación, in an area with the most important Jesuit reductions in south america.
The easiest way to get to Encarnación from Puerto Iguazú was to take the bus to Posadas (about 5 hours) and jump into a local bus to cross the border. This way also allowed me to do a short stop in San Ignasio Midi, another important Jesuit location around 1600, about an hour before Posadas.
The local bus uses the international bridge to cross river Paraná and get to Paraguay and to Encarnación.
Here the Jesuit reduction Trinidad, about 30km of Encarnación on the road to Ciudad del Este.
A moto-Taxi charges 40.000 Guaranies (around 6,5€) for a roundtrip to the next Jesuit reduction, Jesus de Tavaranguė, 12km north of Trinidad.
Encarnación itself is a small, quite, inexpensive city with a moderate climate. I had a chance to meet a couple of long time travelers that had made a stop here while rearranging their plans. I also met Ai, a Japanese girl that had just finished college and is travelling alone through south America, now heading south to the places I already visited. We will stay in contact.
