Weather wise, Punta del Este is clearly not a tropical place and the average temperatures are just around 25C in mid summer. Here are caribbean beaches in clear advantage. This however has not being a reason to stop realstate prices from booming, reaching a level very close if not the same as let say Miami Beach.
Punta del Este is regularly visited by strong rain storms lasting 1 or 2 days. This was in fact the reason why the Spanish who founded the city decided to move the Harbour to Montevideo. I was very lucky during my stay and got the opportunity to experience one of this storms :(
The night wasn't any better weather wise and we ended playing pool in the hostel. Talking to Mirim, a Venezuelan girl, about the current situation in her home country gave me the last reasons to remove it from the route this trip will have.
The weather calmed a little on the second day and could walk around without getting wet. For it was not a beach day.
