With a population close to 2 million inhabitants, Manaus is not longer a town but a big city located at the north back of Rio Negro in the middle of the Amazon rainforest close to the confluence of the Negro and Solimoes rivers.
Also known as "Paris of the Tropics", Manaus was once considered the richest city in south merica. This happened at the end of the 19th century, during the rubber boom years.
As in the case of Belem, the local Theather is one of the icons of Manaus, however recent constructions and projects such as the new bridge over the Rio Negro.
Before arriving to Manaus I still didn't know how to get from there to Tabatinga, in the border to Colombia and Peru. Two options were available: in a boat adventure lasting 6 to 7 days and sleeping in hammocks, or flying. A visit to the harbor provided the answer: 1 or perhaps 2 nights at these conditions are my limit. I will fly.
