PUERTO VARAS: andes lake crossing by rain and fog

Current location:  click here

Those who looked at the website of this tour (see "Useful Links" tab "Bariloche to Puerto Varas") know what I was expecting. The boat, route and service where as expected, just the weather was different and in this case made a big difference in terms of what you could see.

The lake crossing tour started in Bariloche around 7.30 am. We drove along the lake Nahuel Huapi 's shore to Puerto Scarf where we boarded a catamaran to Puerto Blest.

The sky was very clouded, with a heavy rain and bad visibility and the boat carrying people of different tours was full, with all passengers hoping for an improvement.

From Puerto Blest we took a bus to Puerto Alegre, a very short drive, and took a smaller boat to Puerto Frias. On board we had the argentinean pass control officers that we going to open the border check for us as it is a very small one and only opens a few hours a day.

Once in Puerto Frias, we went through all border formalities relatively fast and entered Chile. We changed buses here as well as tour guide and continued to Peulla where we stopped for lunch.

After lunch we had our last lake crossing in a catamaran crossing lake Todos los Santos, arriving to Petrohué where we visited the water falls.

From Petrohué we took the last bus to Puerto Varas, arriving to the town around 6pm. It rained the whole day and couldn't see the volcano Osorno. Must come back.
